I have a 98 storm, i looking to gain a little bit more power. Right now im thinking a different can, clutch kit, and jetting it. I was wondering if this is a good combo or if anyone else has any ideas to get more power outta it.
Can will have little effect on performance.
Clutching to a higher engagement rpm will give a trails performance boost.
Jetting to a tighter tolerance/temp range will also give a boost, but then you will have to rejet more often to as the temp/elevation changes.
Gotmud will be along to give you the best recommendations for the clutch set up.
Nah I don't know about clutching the ole stormy. I know Dirty_Harry runs stock clutching in his 98 Storm and it's pretty tough. I also know that Madcow says with a little porting the storm is a serious machine. I believe Harry has a clutch setup Madcow suggested? If so I'm sure he'll share soon enough.
I guess it depends on how many bennies you want to throw at it as far as performance. If you don't have studs that needs to be your first purchase as you'll never get any traction without them. Since it comes with stock triple pipes I'm thinking you'd have to dive into some porting for any serious gain.

Things I have learned from the net so they must be true!!
Gear it down, you don't need the top-end and can get a great hole shot and throttle response
Shave the heads to get the compression up. shim the jugs to change port timing
The CDI off an RXL will allow the storm to run up to 9500rpm the stock CDI will back off timing at about 8600
Keep in mind though that this also makes the sled make less overall PEAK HP, But runs a much broader more consistent HP curve Unlike the stock Storm curve. Which CDI you use really depends on what you want the sled to do.
Also these motors don't like 8600-9000 RPM's it mess with the harmonic balance causing bad vibrations and if they are ridden there for an extended period of time then tend to let go. They are ok again at the 9200 to 9500 the RXL CDI will let them run at
Change the exhaust even if it is just to lose weight. Lost Weight = More HP
In my case I could lose the 50#
I'm loosing my mind, but as long as I keep the part that tells me when I gotta pee I should be OK.

I know i haven't been on here for awhile but i just now got the sled out of the trailer. The clutch engages at 4k-4200. Im looking for some reliable hp. Something i can still ride on trails. The sled is already geared down some. If you want to know specifics on that i can dig out the info from when i bought them. Thanks for all your suggestions guys
